CUBASE QUICK TIP / HOW TO USE ANALOG GEAR IN CUBASE PRO

Mixing “In The Box” has made mixing accessible and very practical. It is also a cheaper option to its analog counterpart. But don’t get me wrong, analog gear still has its place in the modern recording and mixing world; they both have pros and cons.

A lot of well known mixing engineers still work with analog gear and lot of them use a hybrid setup with their DAW. With today’s technology, it is pretty easy to mix analog gear with plugins with most of modern DAWs. If by any chance you own analog gear like a compressor, a reverb, an EQ, or a delay etc… I really encourage you to try it out on your next mix. Experiment with the gear you have.

In my case, I use my Drawmer 1960 that I got on eBay years ago. It’s a 2 ch Vacuum Tube Compressor / Pre-amp. I really like compressor side of this unit. So when I have the chance to use it on a mix, I just add it in!

In this video, I will show you how I work with my analog compressor in Cubase Pro. I will add this unit as an insert directly on a Stereo Drum Bus and then try it as a Stereo Send FX for parallel compression.

If you don’t use CUBASE, no worries, you can find a similar way of doing this in most popular DAWs out there.

Hope you enjoy!
