Tips to mix rock vocals with SATURATION

Saturation is a very powerful tool. When mixing with saturation, it’s not a “one size fits all” type of thing. It all depends on what you want to achieve in your mix. Saturation can be very effective in a mix. With saturation, you can add texture, color, punch and character to a sound. It can help the instrument to stand out a bit more on a mix. And you don’t need to add a lot for it to be effective.

In this video, I use saturation on the lead vocal to add an overdrive feel to it. Since I wanted the saturation effect to stand out, I did a bit more than just adding tape emulation on the vocal track. There’s a lot of ways you can achieve this. I will share with you what I did on this rock vocal track to get the best saturation effect in the context of the song and arrangement.
